Staff Reporter:

Four workers who sustained severe burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram district on Wednesday were shifted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka early Thursday.

The victims are Mahbubur Rahman, 45, Idris Ali, 27, Riaz Uddin, 20, and Yusuf Ali, 32, all residents of Baltoli village in Chandanaish upazila.

Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the Burn Institute, said Mahbubur suffered burns over 50% of his body, Idris Ali 70%, Riaz Uddin 60%, and Yusuf Ali 55%.

As they were brought in a critical condition all of them were referred to the intensive care unit after initial emergency treatment, said the physician.

Arif Hossain, who accompanied them to the hospital, said the blast occurred around 6am Wednesday when the workers were storing gas cylinders in a warehouse.

Locals rescued them and sent them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, he said.

As their condition worsened, physicians suggested shifting them to Dhaka for advanced care, Arif added.
