Heavy police presence at GM Quader’s residence to avert untoward incident

Staff Reporter:

A large contingent of police has been deployed in front of the residence of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader.

Security was tightened on Saturday afternoon in front of his house on Road 33, House 9/A, Sector-7 in Uttara.

The move follows violent clashes on Friday evening between activists of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) and the Gono Odhikar Parishad in Kakrail, which continued late into the night.

During the clashes, Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur was seriously injured after being beaten by law enforcement officers in front of his party office.

Several other activists were also wounded in the incident.

In response, protests were announced under the banners of the “July Revolutionary Alliance” and “Uttara Chhatra Janata” at the BNS Center on Saturday afternoon.

Demonstrators demanded punishment for the attackers and even called for JaPa to be banned.

Police officials stationed outside GM Quader’s residence said the additional deployment was intended to prevent any untoward incidents.

As of late afternoon, no disturbances had been reported.
