Three dismissed Al-Arafah Bank officials remanded, eight sent to jail

‎A Dhaka court on Thursday placed three dismissed officials of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC on a one-day remand and sent eight others to jail in a case filed over the allegation of public disruption during a protest demanding reinstatement of their jobs.‎

‎Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after the police produced them before the court and sought a seven-day remand for each.‎

‎The three accused placed on remand are – Nurul Akib, Mostafizur Rahman, and Isha Javed. The eight accused sent to jail are – Afzal Hossain, Hasibul Islam, Zubair Bin Rashid, Elias Mia, Azad Hossain, Irfan Uddin, Mojibul Bashak, and Shariful Islam.

‎According to the case documents, 100 to 150 individuals staged demonstrations in front of Al-Arafah Islami Bank near Dainik Bangla intersection in the Paltan area, demanding reinstatement of their jobs on the morning of 25 August.‎

‎When the complainant and police personnel asked the protesters to leave the place and stop chanting slogans, they allegedly caused public inconvenience and attacked the law enforcers.

The police later detained 11 individuals at the scene. A case was filed on 25 August with Paltan Police Station in this regard.
