Eminent elderly journalist Alamgir Mohiuddin, former editor of the Daily Naya Diganta and The New Nation, passed away yesterday at a city hospital. He was 83.
He breathed his last around 1:30 pm while receiving treatment at a hospital.
He was hospitalized at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital on May 30 following a sudden illness at his residence. After a brief recovery, he was discharged and returned home, but his condition deteriorated again, and was hospitalized again in last week.
Doctors reported that he was suffering from various complications.
As his wife passed away four years ago, he was leaving behind two daughters.
Born in Natore district, Mohiuddin’s illustrious career in journalism began shortly after the country’s in-dependence. He served the national news agency as a senior reporter, contributing significantly to its growth and stature. He was also deeply involved in the editorial leadership of the Daily Naya Diganta and the English daily The New Nation.
His death marks the loss of a pioneering journalist. His contributions to the country’s media will last long.
