Staff Reporter:

The Election Commission (EC) will start hearings on objections and suggestions regarding the re-demarcation of parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections from August 24.
According to an EC notification issued yesterday, the hearings will continue until August 27 at the commission’s headquarters in the capital’s Agargaon.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will preside over the hearings, with four elec-tion commissioners and the EC secretary also in present.
The notification, signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mahbub Alam Shah, stated that individuals who sub-mitted written objections or recommendations within the stipulated timeframe would be given the oppor-tunity to present their cases during the hearings.
“The Election Commission will settle the objections and suggestions received over the delimitation of area-based constituencies through a public hearing process,” the notice read.
The EC said that no fresh objections will be accepted and submissions made after the August 10 deadline will not be considered.
Participation in the hearings will be restricted to the original objector, their designated advisor, or duly authorized legal counsel.
Attendees must carry a valid national identity card and necessary documents to the venue. The hearing schedule is final and cannot be changed.
As per the schedule, hearings for Cumilla region will be held on August 24, Khulna, Barishal and Chat-togram regions on August 25, Dhaka region on August 26, and Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Farid-pur and Sylhet regions on August 27.
The commission received a total of 1,760 objections and suggestions concerning the boundaries of 83 constituencies before the August 10 deadline.
After the hearings, the EC’s legal wing will issue final decisions to the respective parties, paving the way for the announcement of the final constituency boundaries ahead of the national polls.
