JS polls must be held in Feb, no force can thwart it: Shafiqul

Staff Reporter:

Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, has categorically said that the 13th parliamentary election must be held before Ramadan in February next year and no force can halt it by any means.

Shafiqul expressed the government’s determination in response to claims by some political parties, including the BNP, who are alleging conspiracies everywhere to obstruct the holding of the national election according to the timeline of the interim administration.

“The election will be held exactly as stated by the chief adviser and there is no doubt about it. Many are sowing seeds of confusion and I would tell them, just stop it,” he said this while talking to reporters in Magura on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Shafiqul Alam offered prayers at the graves of Shaheed Rabbi and Shaheed Al Amin in the area after Jumma prayers.

The entire nation is prepared for the election and all state institutions are engaged in working relentlessly to hold the election in a free, fair and inclusive manner, he said.

Claiming that holding a peaceful election is the key responsibility of the government, Shafiqul said the interim administration is working with the Election Commission to make the efforts successful.

Meanwhile, the government has confirmed that the national election will be held before Ramadan in February next year, and the Election Commission on Thursday said that it will announce the election roadmap by next week.

Amid the situation, confusion has gripped the country’s political arena over the fate of the national election, as exiled Awami League leaders, including Sheikh Hasina, are reportedly urging their party members from neighboring India to go for subversive activities to halt the national election.
