July Charter preparation process must be transparent, visible: CA

Staff Reporter:

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Thursday instructed the National Consensus Commission to ensure transparency and visibility for the general people during the July Charter preparation process.

Prof Yunus gave the directive during a progress meeting with the Commission members at the State Guest House Jamuna in the capital.

Every meeting of the Commission has been aired live on television channels, garnering plaudits at home and abroad, the chief adviser said, stressing this visibility must be maintained.

The entire charter preparation process must be kept transparent as well, he said.

The July Charter would serve as a blueprint of state reform measures for the upcoming elected parliament to pass. After talks with the Consensus Commission on the potential reforms, the political parties would officially pledge to pass the reform measures with a view to removing fascist policies in state affairs.

At Thursday’s meeting, Consensus Commission Vice President Prof Ali Riaz informed Prof Yunus that agreements have been reached with all the participating political parties on eight state reform issues in the second round of talks.

Talks are ongoing over seven other issues, Ali Riaz told Prof Yunus.
