Interim govt to ensure trial of July massacre: Adviser

Rangpur: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul has said the interim government will ensure globally acceptable trials of the July massacre.
“We want to set an example by conducting trials that will be acceptable to the whole world. We are hopeful that everyone will see the trial of the martyred Abu Sayeed murder case during the tenure of the interim government,” he said.
He said this at a discussion organized at the Independence Memorial Square of Begum Rokeya Universi-ty, Rangpur (BRUR) to mark the first martyrdom anniversary of Abu Sayeed and ‘July Martyrs’ Day 2025′ on Wednesday as a guest of honor.
With BRUR Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali in the chair, Md Mokbul Hossain, father of martyred Abu Sayeed, attended the event as the chief guest.
Relatives, including widows and parents of the 22 martyred families of Rangpur, were present as special guests.
Adviser to the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan attended the event as guest of honor.
In addition, UGC Chairman professor Dr SMA Fayez, its member Professor Dr Tanzimuddin Khan and Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Education Siddique Jobayer were also present as guests of honor.
Professor Asif Nazrul said that the trial of the martyred Abu Sayeed murder case is progressing at full speed at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) and his killers will be tried during the interim govern-ment’s term.
He said, “The head of the previous fascist regime, Sheikh Hasina, used to talk about her father’s death in words. Even then, it took three and a half years to try her father’s murder although we have not come to try it like Sheikh Hasina’s regime.”
“We want to set an example by conducting acceptable world standard trials,” he said.
