Criminal must be punished: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Tuesday emphasized that criminals must be strictly dealt with so that no offender can evade justice.
He called for the highest level of sincerity and professionalism in maintaining law and order and ensur-ing public safety in the capital.
The DMP Commissioner made these remarks while presiding over the monthly crime review meeting for June 2025, held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh.
Addressing senior DMP officers, he stressed that each unit head must manage their units efficiently and effectively.
All officers must perform their professional duties with a strong sense of responsibility and dedication, he said.
The Commissioner further directed the force to strengthen regular patrols, increase surveillance in crime-prone areas, set up more checkpoints, expedite case investigations, and improve the case disposal rate.
He also called for intensified efforts to recover stolen vehicles, seize illegal drugs, and execute arrest warrants.
Additional Police Commissioner (Administration) Faruq Ahmed highlighted the need for planned action in serving warrants and investigating cases.
He also underscored the importance of community cooperation to ensure people-friendly policing.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.N. Md Nazrul Islam, PPM, urged senior of-ficers to step up supervision in case investigations and disposals.
He thanked all officers for performing their duties sincerely despite various challenges during Eid-ul-Azha.
During the meeting, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md Faruq Hossain presented comprehensive crime statistics for June 2025, covering incidents such as robbery, mugging, theft, burglary, murder, unnatural deaths, road accidents, violence against women and children, rape, as well as drug and arms recoveries.
At the event, the DMP Commissioner also issued several directives to attending officers. In recognition of their outstanding work in maintaining law and order, controlling crime, and ensuring public safety in June, officers of different ranks were awarded in various categories.
