Govt starts combing operation to arrest criminals

The government has launched combing operation across the country from yesterday in the backdrop of deteriorating law and order in different parts of the country.
“All identified criminals will be brought under the purview of the law during the drive,” said Home Ad-viser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
“A combing or special operation has started from now considering the overall situation to capture the criminals,” he said yesterday after an advisory council meeting on law and order in the secretariat.
The Home Adviser said the government is working to ensure fair trial and exemplary punishment of those who are involved with the nationwide killings include the gruesome murder at Old Dhaka’s Mit-ford area on Wednesday.
The adviser said, they are attaching topmost priority to the Mitford killing case and seven of 19 accused have already been arrested.
The intelligence agencies have been working tirelessly to arrest the other accused of the case, he said, adding that none will be spared irrespective of their political identity.
“The government believes criminals are criminals. No criminal will be spared regardless of their political affiliation. No criminal will get shelter,” he said.
Jahangir Alam sought cooperation from all including the media in this regard.
He said steps have already been taken to shift the Mitford murder case to the Speedy Trial Tribunal for its speedy trial.
Describing the Mitford incident a matter of great concern and grief, the Home Adviser said, “Such inci-dent cannot happen in any civilized society.”
The government is considering with great importance whether there was any negligence of the law en-forcement agencies and administration.
Replying to another query about preparation of the law enforcing agencies ahead of the next general election, Jahangir said they will complete their preparation by December next.
The other stakeholders, the election commission, administration and the candidates will do their part, he noted saying the Election Commission will announce the election time.”
