NCC to bring amendments as per response

Staff Reporter:

National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz yesterday said the commission is not imposing anything rather bringing amendment proposals by taking into account the feelings and state-ments of political parties in various areas.
“The consensus commission has made different proposals because most parties have objections to the National Constitutional Council,” he said at the beginning of the 10th day of the second phase of the discussions of political parties with the commission at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy here.
Representatives of 30 political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Ja-maat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gono Sanghati Andolon, Com-munist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party participated in yesterday’s discussion with the National Consensus Commission.
Three issues are scheduled to be discussed: expansion of subordinate courts at the upazila level, declara-tion of a state of emergency and women’s representation.
Commission Members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haidar were present.
Ali Riaz said the commission is keeping an eye on the political parties so that there is no misunderstand-ing.
“As a result, we are participating in the discussions by leaving out many things,” he said.
Stating that positive discussions are being held with political leaders, he further said, this trend should be continued and everyone’s cooperation is needed to complete the work quickly by meeting as much as possible.
