Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Sunday warned that individuals involved in mob violence will not be spared and they will face legal action.
“The perpetrators, no matter how influential they may be, will be tracked down and brought to justice,” he told the media after visiting the Industrial Police Headquarters and Uttara East Police Station in the capital’s Uttara.
Jahangir said, “Although mob incidents declined considerably, such incidents have recently occurred again in some areas. We are taking a hard line on the issue.”
While talking on the parliamentary election issue, the adviser said that ensuring a proper election-friendly environment is not the sole responsibility of law enforcement agencies.
The Election Commission, administration, officials concerned, and political parties contesting the polls must also be prepared in this regard, he said.
“There is no lack of preparation on our part. We are working to hold a free and fair election and are taking all necessary measures to maintain law and order.”
He added, “The interim government will extend all necessary cooperation to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election with the participation of all parties.”
