ICT asks publication of newspaper notice summoning Hasina

Staff Reporter:

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) yesterday ordered the publication of a notice in two widely cir-culated newspapers summoning ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former Chhatra League leader Shakil Alam Bulbul to face contempt of court charges.
The three-member tribunal panel led by Justice Md Golam Murtoza Majumder passed the order after hearing a petition by chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam yesterday.
The panel ordered to publish the notice in a Bengali and an English newspaper within the next seven days. The court also fixed June 3 for delivering next orders in this regard.
According to the ICT sources, an audio clip with a speech of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in which she said that ‘227 cases have been filed against me, so that I have gotten licenses for killing 227 people’ was circulated through online media. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police later examined the video clip and found that the speech belonged to Sheikh Hasina.
The ICT later brought a contempt of court charge against Sheikh Hasina and the tribunal asked her to submit their statements to the court by May 15. As both the accused failed to appear before the tribunal today, the court ordered to publish a notice in newspapers summoning them to face contempt of court case.
