Govt to form social force to combat violence against women

Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid yesterday said the gov-ernment will form a dedicated social force to combat violence and threats against women.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing such issues, the adviser added, “The force will actively reach out to victims, listen to their concerns, and take concrete steps toward resolving their problems.”
The adviser shared the information at the award distribution ceremony organized by the Bangladesh Scouts Girl-in-Scouting Division at the National Headquarters of Bangladesh Scouts as the chief guest.
The ceremony celebrated the achievements of young girls who have made significant contributions to their communities marking the Girl-in Scouting Day, International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day.
‘The initiative to form a social force aims to offer direct support to women who have suffered from abuse and violence, ensuring that help is available at their doorsteps,’ Adviser Murshid said.
In addition to this, a specialized unit will be established to tackle the growing issue of cyberbullying, she said.
She also noted that hundreds of girls, including members of the Bangladesh Scouts’ will be part of this effort.
Bangladesh Scouts Executive Director Md Shamsul Haque and Joint Convener of the National Sub-Committee on Girl-in-Scouting Affairs Nurunnahar Rupa, among others, were present on the occasion, with Mahenur Jahan, Convener of the National Committee on Girl-in-Scouting Affairs, in the chair.
