Describing workers as the main driving force of the country, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Masood Sayeedi emphasised the need for a worker-friendly government that prioritises the rights, well-being and interests of workers to take the country forward.
“Our workers are the main driving force of the country, but they are victims of oppression and discrimination in various ways. As a result, the owner class gains benefits while the fate of the workers remains unchanged in most cases,” he said.
While addressing a rally marking the Mad Day in Pirojpur, he said that the government must ensure a dignified life for the workers where they will get the due price of their labour in the competitive world.
The fundamental rights, including food, education and treatment, must be ensured for the workers alongside their safe and secure environment at their workplaces, he said.
The workers must be compensated by the owners for their workplace injuries and casualties and they must be given the freedom of expression to express their professional complexities, he said.
He also called upon the interim government to play a role in establishing a pro-worker administration to this end.
