Probe body urges to testify 18 including Hasina

The National Independent Investigation Commission on the 2009 BDR carnage has issued another public notice urging 18 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to testify as part of its ongoing inquiry.
Apart from Sheikh Hasina, other individuals are- former security affairs adviser to the former Prime Minister Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former lawmakers Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mirza Azam, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, AHM Golam Reza, Waresat Hussain Belal, Anisul Islam Mahmud, Nurul Islam BSc, former director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Hasan Mahmud Khandoker, former addi-tional IG of police Monirul Islam, former ward commissioner Suraiya Begum, journalists Munni Saha, JI Mamun, Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Liton alias Leather Lition, son of Torab Ali.
The commission has requested all the public and private television channels and electronic media to pub-lish the public notice as scrawl for the next seven days. The notice was published on the commission’s website: bdr-commission.org.
Earlier on March 8 last the commission issued a public notice asking 15 individuals including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to give testimony before it about the February 25-26, 2009 BDR carnage.
Apart from Sheikh Hasina, other individuals are former army chiefs General Moeen U Ahmed and Aziz Ahmed, Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique former prime minister’s security adviser, Fazle Noor Taposh, former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, former member of parliament from Gopalganj-2, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former member of parliament from Dhaka-13, Mirza Azam, former member of parliament from Jamalpur-3 and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former mem-ber of parliament from Dhaka-8, Brig Gen (retd) Muhammad Shamsul Alam, former commander, 44th Rifle Battalion, Lt Gen (retd) Molla Fazle Akbar, former directorate general of Forces Intelligence, Ha-san Mahmud Khandaker, former directorate general, RAB, Abdul Kahar Akond, former police officer, Nur Mohammad, former inspector general of police and Monirul Islam, former additional IGP.
In the notice, the witnesses were requested to inform the commission in writing of their proposed sched-ule within seven days of the publication of the notice, either by phone or e-mail or by letter, as per their convenience.
Online testimony can also be arranged through video conference, the notice added.
The commission made the call in a special notice issued on March 8 last, saying that due to time con-straint, the commission hopes to complete the process of taking the testimony of the 15 individuals by March 31 this year.
