Obaidul Quader finally spotted in Kolkata

Staff Reporter:

Obaidul Quader, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister of the deposed Awami League government, has finally been spotted in Kolkata, India.

Gazi Nasir Uddin Ahmed, editor of the online news portal Sakal Sandha, shared the information on Friday in a Facebook post, quoting a friend now staying in Kolkata.

In his post, Nasir said his friend was waiting in front of Endocrinologist Shyamasis Banerjee’s chamber at Apollo Hospital in Kolkata for treatment purposes.

Suddenly, he noticed a man wearing a sky-blue T-shirt and pants emerging from the chamber and instantly recognised him. Quader was leaving the place wearing a mask over his face rapidly, Nasir said.

Quader was seen healthy, Nasir said, quoting his friend as saying.

Controversy was ongoing over the whereabouts of Quader, general secretary of Awami League, after the 5 August changeover.

Some speculated that he has taken shelter in India after fleeing the country in the wake of the student-led mass uprising. However, none could say anything specific in this regard.

Besides, the local newspapers reported that Quader was staying in Bangladesh for three months after the 5 August changeover and later on 8 November, he fled the country and took shelter in India.

However, the government could not officially ascertain the whereabouts of Quader.
