Allies of defeated force responsible for CHT unrest: BNP

Staff Reporter:

Expressing grave concern over the prevailing unrest in the hilly areas, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the allies of the defeated force are still engaged in hatching conspiracy to create an anarchical situation in the country.

“The countrymen got relief from the horrific misdeeds of the fascist Awami League government but the nation is still not secured as the allies of the defeated force got disparate to create anarchy in the country,” he said on Friday.

At least four people were killed, 70 others injured and many houses and business establishments were vandalised during clashes in Rangamati and Khagrachhari hilly areas, he said.

In a press statement following the incident, Fakhrul said that the conspirators are unable to accept the historic victory of the student-led movement, and thus, they went on a nationwide killing spree to destabilise the current interim government.

The violent incidents and the casualties are a brutal manifestation of the conspiracy and there is no alternative but to suppress the terrorist group with a strong hand, said the BNP leader.

The people irrespective of party affiliation will have to remain alert so that conspirators cannot reach their destination through a bloodstained path, Fakhrul said.

In the statement, he also demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the miscreants.

He prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls, extended his sympathy to the bereaved families, and wished for the swift recovery of those injured in the attacks.
