CIC urges all to follow RTI Act

Mymensingh: Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Dr Abdul Malek yesterday urged all to increase the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
“The present government passed the Right to Information Act (RTI) in 2009 to ensure people’s right to information. This act is a pro-people one and people can get their necessary information from different public and private institutions by using this act,” he said.
He came up with the observation while addressing as the chief guest at a workshop on RTI Act, 2009, and public awareness meeting at Mymensingh, said a press release here yesterday.
Dr. Abdul Malek also said that accurate information is necessary for the people. Correct information plays an important role in increasing transparency and accountability.
“We can prevent the scope of violence and anxiety, created by falsehood, misinformation from un-edited platforms, among people through the flow of concrete information,” he said.
Information Commissioner Shahidul Alam Jhinuk and Information Commissioner Masuda Bhatti were present as the special guest at the event, presided over by Mymensingh deputy commissioner (DC) Didar-E-Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury.
The function was attended by government officials, the district committee of the RTI Act, local repre-sentatives, journalists, teachers and NGO representatives, among others.
