Taijul takes five as Ireland tumble for 214 in Dhaka Test

Sports Reporter:

In their first-ever Test innings against Bangladesh, Ireland won the toss and chose to bat first. However, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed his 11th five-for in Tests to help dismiss Ireland for 214 on Tues-day in Dhaka.
In reply to Ireland’s first innings of 214, Bangladesh ended day one at 34 for two, with Tamim Iqbal being dismissed off the last ball of the day. With eight wickets in hand, Bangladesh are trailing by 180 runs in their first innings.
Earlier, although Ireland lost three wickets in the first session, they managed to negotiate the Bangladesh bowling attack well. But in the next two sessions, they struggled against the Bangladeshi spinners.
The first wicket for Bangladesh was taken by Shoriful Islam, who removed Murray Commins for five runs. Ebadot Hossain dismissed James McCollum, the second victim.
With just over 10 overs remaining on the day, Ireland were bowled out in 77.2 overs. Harry Tector was the top scorer for the visitors, with a half-century, while Lorcan Tucker (37), Curtis Campher (34), and Mark Adair (32) also batted well against the quality Bangladesh attack.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan did not bowl until the 66th over, and it was unclear why he waited so long before bringing himself on to bowl. He only bowled three overs.
Taijul finished with figures of 5 for 58 in 28 overs, while Ebadot and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each took two wickets.
