An utility capsizes at Paturia ghat

A utility ferry ‘Rajanigandha’ on the Dhaka-Paturia route capsized in the Padma River located at Paturia 5 no ferry ghat area of Manikganj district yesterday morning.
“The accident occurred around 8.30am when it was carrying nine covered vans– and a pickup on board”, said Inspector of Aricha Ferry Services Mohammad Muzibur Rahman.
The ferry was stranded in the middle of Padma due to dense fog, he added.
The Aricha Fire Station divers unit is conducting rescue operation.
Six people so far have been recovered alive since the launching rescue operation.
The divers units from Manikganj and Siddique Bazar fire stations in the capital already have rushed to the spot for conducting rescue operation, confirmed by Aricha Fire Station Duty Officer Syed Ashrafur Rahman.
A ferry staff is still missing after the incident, said fire zone deputy assistant Abdul Hamid.
The reason behind the ferry capsize could not be known immediately.
