Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked her party’s newly-elected members of parliament (MPs) to attach topmost priority to working for the welfare of the country and its people.
“Every MP will have to work for the people in their respective constituencies. You should ensure bal-anced development in your respective areas,” she said.
She made remarks while addressing the maiden meeting of Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) of the 12th Parliament after being reelected as the Leader of the House for the fourth consecutive term at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, MP, proposed Sheikh Hasina’s name as the Leader of the House which was supported by Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, MP.
The proposal was later accepted unanimously with a gigantic clap.
The meeting was lasted for an hour starting at around 12:00pm.
Quoting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as saying lawmaker Tanvir Shakil Joy, said: “The democracy and the people of the country have won the January 7 national election.”
In reply to another query, he said the AL chief didn’t say anything about who is going to be the opposi-tion party in the Parliament.
The ALPP meeting again nominated Matia Chowdhury, MP, as the Deputy Leader of the House.
It also decided to reelect Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, MP, as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House respectively while Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, MP, as the chief whip of the parliament.
Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury was reelected as secretary of the ALPP as well.
