A Correspondent:

New Delhi: Speakers at the stakeholders meeting on National Integrity Strategy (NIS) of Biman Bangla-desh Airline have underlined the need for further improving quality and customer-oriented services to boost business and sustain in the modern global competitive aviation industry.
Although Biman is doing better than before in terms of providing services, but as the lone national flag carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has a big role to play further to compete with the private sector-run airlines, they said.
The meeting was held in a hotel at the Aero city, near Indira Gandhi International Airport, here last evening.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md. Mustafizur Rahman attended the meeting as the chief guest while Managing Director, GSA-Biman Harvindar Singh Duggal was present as the special guest.
Shakil Meraj, General Manager (P&P) of Biman presented the key-note speech on NIS of Biman with Biman New Delhi Country Manager Quazi Nasirul Alam in the chair.
The Bangladesh high commissioner said as the lone national flag carrier of Bangladesh, Biman is duty-bound to provide adequate in-flight services and amenities, ensure on-time performance and put an ef-fective management system in place to earn the trust and loyalty of its customers.
“Here comes the importance of the National Integrity Strategy, which can serve as the guidelines for attaining those objectives,” he added.
He lauded the Biman initiatives including introduction of mobile apps for purchasing tickets, various digitalized services and a grievance redressed mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability in service delivery.
Rahman said the government of Bangladesh formulated the NIS to infuse transparency, accountability and integrity into institutions and society. The overall purpose of the strategy is to ensure good govern-ance and create trust among people, he added.
The envoy said the Bangladesh government wants Dhaka to become an aviation hub in the region and compete with other regional ones.
Airports are just one of the imperatives for a thriving aviation hub, he said, adding a well-established airline industry is the other perquisite.
“Without modern and customer-oriented airlines, an airport would basically be an empty shell in this regard”, he observed.
Mentioning the importance of Biman to provide quality service, he said the national flag career needs to step up efforts to establish it as a more reliable airline and uplift its reputation further in realizing the potential of making Dhaka a regional aviation hub.
“When we talk about image and reputation, integrity should be there as a key pillar while it (integrity) helps edify moral and ethical clarity and guide us in accomplishing the righteous actions”, Rahman said.
Officers and employees of Biman New Delhi office and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
