A visiting Australian clean energy delegation has been exploring opportunities for joint investment, technology transfer and local manufacturing in Bangladesh’s renewable energy sector.
Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) disclosed the information at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in Dhaka yesterday.
BSREA President Mostafa Al Mahmud said solar power, battery energy storage and rooftop solar is a emerging as key areas of cooperation.
“Australia’s experience could help Bangladesh expand the use of renewable energy, particularly in solar power generation, battery storage, integration of renewable energy into the national grid and electricity market management,” he said.
He said joint ventures between companies from the two countries could facilitate technology transfer, create employment opportunities and strengthen Bangladesh’s domestic capacity to manufacture solar energy equipment.
The delegation is now in a four-day visit in Bangladesh with BSREA serving as the local coordinator, while Renewable Energy Council Asia-Pacific (RECAP), Smart Energy Council and Austrade supported the initiative.
The BSREA said on the first day of the visit, October 24, the delegation met with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun.
It said the meeting discussed foreign investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector and the policy support required to facilitate such investment.
On October 25, a seminar and business networking sessions were held on Bangladesh’s clean energy market.
On October 26, the delegation attended a seminar on renewable energy, carbon emission reduction and energy transition organised by the Australia Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ABCCI).
The delegates also held separate meetings with the commerce minister and the secretary of the Power Division.
The association also identified opportunities in the manufacturing and assembly of solar panels, inverters and batteries.
The BSREA further said the Australian delegation’s visit had created new opportunities for engagement among companies, policymakers, investors and researchers from the two countries.
It emphasised the need for sustained initiatives in joint investment, technology transfer and skills development to turn these contacts into concrete partnerships.
