Four warehouses of Sheikh Nur Islam, father-in-law of content creator Salman Muqtadir, were sealed in a joint operation at Gulshan’s Toss Bond Private Limited late Thursday night.
The warehouses were sealed over allegations of storing duty-free liquor in an ‘unauthorised’ facility, according to a press release issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The operation was conducted by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID), the Department of Narcotics Control and the Special Response Battalion (SRB), the NBR said.
According to the NBR press release, the warehouses were sealed for ‘further verification’ after ‘serious irregularities’ were initially found.
The development comes days after several structures at a housing project of New Guinea Properties in South Manikdi were attacked and vandalised on the night of 26 September.
Salman Muqtadir’s studio was damaged in the attack. Following the incident, Salman made various allegations in a Facebook Live.
Later, a case filed by New Guinea Properties director Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan alleged that the attack was carried out over land grabbing and previous enmity. Retired Major General Golam Mahiuddin Chowdhury and 12 others were named as accused in the case.
Police have so far reported the arrest of seven people, including Golam Mahiuddin Chowdhury and Mizanur Rahman, son-in-law of Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker from Kushtia-2 Abdul Gafur.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sought Salman Muqtadir’s bank account details. All commercial banks were asked to submit information on his bank accounts and transactions to the BFIU by Wednesday.
