Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman has demanded the immediate release of party leader Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman from police custody.
Akhtaruzzaman was arrested on Friday from his Cantonment residence in a case filed over creating disorder at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and obstructing government duties.
“Release valiant freedom fighter Akhtaruzzaman immediately. Withdraw the false case. He did not humiliate anyone physically. This accusation is completely false. I am condemning and protesting the incident strongly,” Shafiqur said in a social media post.
Shafiqur added, “Two officials have been suspended over irregularities and mismanagement at HSIA. Akhtaruzzaman had only protested the passenger harassment, ignoring of expatriate Bangladeshis and unjustifiable behaviour towards them. Watch his language. The passengers at the airport are witnesses to his protest.”
“This is a danger sign. The victims will not accept it,” Shafiqur further said.
