Battery-run rickshaws are increasingly operating on the Bhulta Flyover in Rupganj of Narayanganj, add-ing to growing concerns over the unsafe and unregulated movement of the three-wheelers on busy roads.
The vehicles have become a common sight on the flyover, despite their operation often being associated with traffic-rule violations and reckless driving, according to local commuters.
They said the presence of battery-powered rickshaws on the busy flyover creates an additional risk of collisions, particularly as the vehicles move at much slower speeds than other traffic.
The commuters said the growing number of such vehicles and their movement without properly follow-ing traffic rules are already causing safety concerns on roads, while their operation on flyovers and other busy routes could further increase the risk of serious accidents.
They urged the authorities concerned to take effective measures to regulate the movement of auto-rickshaws and ensure compliance with traffic rules to prevent accidents and maintain safer traffic flow.
