Ministers asked to lower voices in Parliament

Staff Reporter:

Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal on Monday was forced to ask Religious Affairs Minister Ka-zi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Mir Shahe Alam to converse softly in the House, as it was disrupting a lawmaker’s speech.
The incident occurred during a discussion on an urgent matter of public importance, moved under a notice of adjournment, when the Deputy Speaker gave the floor to Selina Sultana, a BNP lawmak-er from a reserved women’s seat. As she began speaking on the misinterpretation of religion, the religious affairs minister and the LGRD state minister were seen standing and talking in the cham-ber.
Noticing this, Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal intervened, saying, “Honourable religious affairs min-ister and honorable LGRD state minister, please sit down while speaking. A member is delivering her speech behind you. Please speak softly.”
As Selina Sultana continued her speech, the Deputy Speaker again requested the two ministers to stop, saying, “Honorable religious affairs minister and LGRD state minister, please sit and speak softly so that we can hear her.”
