Businesses must contribute to economy: Mintoo

Feni: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo yesterday called upon businesspeople to contribute to the country’s economic development through expansion of their business-es.
The minister made the call while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of the Feni Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) for the 2026-2028 terms as the chief guest.
He said it is the responsibility of the business community to increase the country’s wealth.
The contribution of businesspeople to creating new employment opportunities and overall economic pro-gress of the country is undeniable, he added.
The minister further said many people indiscriminately criticize all businesspeople, which is not accepta-ble at all.
Many businesspeople conduct their businesses by following rules and regulations, he said. He praised their contribution to the country’s progress.
He said a country’s economic growth and increase in wealth can only be achieved through trade, com-merce and investment.
Wealth can be distributed or shared, but poverty cannot be distributed in such a way, he added.
At the event, he delivered a guiding speech on environment-friendly sustainable development, expansion of regional trade and commerce and the overall economic progress of the country.
Feni-2 constituency lawmaker Bir Muktijoddha Professor Joynal Abedin and reserved women seat law-maker Rehana Akter were present as special guests at the program.
Deputy Commissioner Monira Haque, Superintendent of Police, Pratyush Kumar Majumder, Zila Pari-shad Administrator Professor MA Khaleque, representatives of different business organizations, leaders and activists of political parties and members of the concerned organization were present, among others.
