A meeting of the committee on water management was held yesterday with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Water Resource Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister Forhad Hossain Azad, ex-pert of water resource management Professor Ainun Nishat and senior officials of the ministry were pre-sent at the meeting.
Later, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee told journalists that they held the meeting to discuss the preparato-ry issues ahead of the upcoming monsoon.
“The rainy season is approaching, floods and inundation may occur. We discussed with the Prime Minis-ter what preparations we need to take in advance. We informed him about our plans,” he said.
Noting that canal excavation program is ongoing, the minister said that the Prime Minister will inaugu-rate the canal excavation program in Jashore on April 27 and in Sylhet on May 2.
