The government has expanded the pilot use of the ‘Fuel Pass’ at filling stations across Dhaka in a bid to modernise and ensure greater transparency in the country’s fuel supply system.
Officials say the initiative is expected to ease the hassles faced by motorcyclists when purchasing fuel.
The development was announced on Saturday (18 April) in a post on the verified Facebook page of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
According to the post, the pilot programme has been extended to 18 filling stations across Dhaka district from today. The ministry also said the initiative will be rolled out gradually to other districts nationwide.
The stations included in the expanded programme are: Karim & Sons in Shyamoli; Eastern Enterprise Filling Station in Mirpur-1; Gazipur Traders in Uttara; Messrs Sattar & Company in Tejgaon Industrial Area; Messrs Rahman Filling Station in Mirpur-10; Messrs Karim & Brothers in Tejgaon; Messrs Rashid Filling Station in Mohakhali; BRB Filling Station in Tejgaon; Seba Filling Station in Badda; Hamid Filling Station in Mirpur; and Sumaiya Filling Station in Kazipara, Mirpur.
Earlier, from Sunday (13 April), the use of the ‘Fuel Pass’ was made mandatory for motorcyclists at seven filling stations in the capital. These included Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon; Sonar Bangla and Talukdar Filling Stations at Asad Gate; Gulshan Service Station in Mohakhali; Meghna Model Pump in Shahbagh; Nikunja Model Service Centre; and Khalek Service Station in Kalyanpur.
Previously, on 9 April, the Energy Division said that the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, had introduced the QR code-based ‘Fuel Pass’ app on a pilot basis to bring greater transparency and discipline to fuel distribution.
The app is initially being piloted for motorcycle owners and riders. If the pilot proves successful, the ‘Fuel Pass’ system will be gradually expanded for use by all types of vehicles across the country. The programme was first launched at seven filling stations in the capital.
