A Dhaka court on Thursday placed dismissed major and a former official of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Manjil Haider Chowdhury on a fresh five-day remand in a case filed over a murder linked with the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piash passed the order after the investigation officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Md Amjad Hossain Talukder, produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
Earlier, court had placed him on a four-day remand on 10 April and three-day remand on 14 April in the same case. He was arrested on 9 April from the DOHS area in Mohakhali.
According to the remand petition, the accused, used his position to suppress the July movement and was a close associate of a former military adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique.
Although he admitted some involvement, he withheld key information about other associates. Further interrogation is needed to uncover details about the case, the plea said.
According to the case statement, on 19 July 2024, businessman Abdul Wadud was killed after being allegedly shot by Awami League activists under the direction of the named accused.
A murder case was filed by the victim’s brother-in-law, Abdul Rahman, against 130 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
