The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday took cognisance of charges against Hasanul Haq Inu, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and a senior leader in the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, over crimes against humanity committed during the 2024 mass uprising.
The three-member bench of ICT-2, led by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, accepted the charges relating to the killing of seven people in Kushtia.
The tribunal set 29 September for a hearing on framing charges and directed the authorities to produce Inu before the court on that day.
Prosecutors have pressed eight charges against him, including killings, command responsibility and abetment. ICT prosecutor Mizanul Islam read out the charges in court.
At a press briefing, ICT Prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim said they submitted a 39-page formal charge supported by 1,680 pages of documents compiled in four volumes.
Six video recordings and three audio files were also presented at the tribunal as evidence, he further said, adding that a list of 20 prosecution witnesses was placed before the tribunal.
