The Election Commission (EC) has launched its official YouTube channel, a move aimed at enhancing transparency and communication with the public.
As part of the launch, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin addressed the nation in a video message discussing the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential misuse.
On Thursday, the EC’s Public Relations Wing made the announcement, marking a significant step in the commission’s efforts to engage with citizens more effectively.
In his address, the CEC welcomed citizens to the official channel, emphasising its role in providing reliable and accessible information about elections. He said, “We are inaugurating this official YouTube channel today. Through this platform, we aim to present all election-related information in a simple, clear, and detailed manner. The channel will focus on voter registration, election schedules, candidate guidelines, and voters’ rights and responsibilities.”
The CEC stressed that the commission’s primary goal is to ensure broad participation in the electoral process, particularly among women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalised communities.
He stated, “We want everyone to actively engage in strengthening our democracy. For free, fair, and credible elections, it’s crucial to build public trust and transparency. We intend to present our information in a way that will enhance confidence in the electoral system.”
The CEC also highlighted growing concerns over the misuse of AI and the spread of fake or manipulated content on social media. “One of the major challenges we face today is the spread of fabricated videos using artificial intelligence. I urge the public to verify information before believing or sharing it,” he cautioned.
He further appealed for public cooperation in combating misinformation, saying, “Let us unite to fight against fake news. We ask for everyone’s support in this battle against misinformation on social media.”
The CEC reminded citizens that accurate election-related information is also available through the Bangladesh Election Commission’s official Facebook page, which complements the newly launched YouTube channel.
“We encourage everyone to subscribe to our YouTube channel and regularly visit our social media platforms for trustworthy updates on the electoral process,” he said.
