BNP leader Zainul Abedin Farroque has urged Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus to hold the next general election immediately without stepping down from power.
“I am upset about the information of your intention to quit power. You are not merely an individual, but a representative of the 18 crore people. You should set an instance by holding a free, fair and impartial election without stepping down from your position,” he said.
While addressing a programme held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday, Farroque called upon the government to identify those who are engaged in creating unrest in the country deliberately.
“Who are they? BNP will not shoulder the consequences of the unrest,” said Farroque, who is an advisory council member of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Earlier on Thursday, BNP Standing Committee Member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain demanded dismissal of Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman over their neutrality concerns.
Reiterating the demand, Farroque said the chief adviser should ensure the dismissal of the three advisers for the sake of the country’s peace and stability.
“The people put you in power, and nine months have passed since then—yet you’ve failed to announce an election roadmap. Why? And who is working behind the scenes to prolong the election?” he said.
