Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi now haven for muggers

Capital’s Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur areas have recently witnessed a surge in mugging incidents and other serious crimes which reached at an alarming level.
The attackers, usually arrive on motorbikes and attack the victims mostly rickshaw passenger and pass-ersby, stealing his mobile phone and cash before fleeing the scene.
CCTV cameras at house 83 and elsewhere likely captured the muggers’ motorbike registration numbers and other identifying details, which could assist law enforcement in tracking them down.
Locals have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating security situation in Dhanmondi and Mo-hammadpur areas with many calling for urgent and effective measures by law enforcement agencies to restore safety.
Most extortionists in Mohammadpur are residents of the area. Identify and resist the wrongdoers among your neighbors. The extortion gang on footpaths is being monitored and legal actions are being taken promptly, DMP commissioner said.
Police stations of these areas are reportedly facing shortage of personnel and logistic supports after the changeover of the government. The criminals and muggers are taking the advantage of the situation, it is alleged.
Concerned police stations said that they are trying to bring the situation under control with their capacity and process of action in underway.
‘We are in the process of collecting CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators. It will also be easy to nab the culprits and take legal action if we get formal and specific complaints’, police said.
