Photography exhibition ‘Bangladesh in Frames’ going on in Mexico’s Queretaro

Staff Reporter:

The Museum of Arts in Queretaro state, Mexico is hosting an eight-week photography exhibition “Bangladesh in Frames” during 11 March-12 May.

Featuring 41 evocative photographs, the exhibition aims to offer a comprehensive portrayal of Bangladesh’s landscapes, culture, socio-economic activities, and the empowerment of women—elements pivotal to the nation’s development journey. The inclusion of works by acclaimed photographers like Mustafiz Mamun and Abdul Momin has brought a unique dimension to the exhibition.

The show’s inaugural event marked a significant milestone as it was the first cultural endeavour from Bangladesh to blend with Queretaro’s cultural landscape.

The event was graced by approximately 30 dignitaries including Museum of Arts Director Antonio Arellano Barquet, Coordinator of International Relations and Government Innovation in the state of Queretaro Nury Gonzalez Rivas, Secretary of Culture Marcela Herbert Pesquera, and Bangladeshi Ambassador to Mexico Abida Islam.

Having previously captivated audiences during its debut at Paseo de Las Culturas Amigas, Reforma, Mexico City, in February last year, and later touring all five campuses of the University of Colima , in the Mexican state of Colima, in September 2023, the exhibition now seeks to enthrall visitors in Queretaro.

Museum director Antonio Arelle Barquet expressed sincere gratitude for the collaboration between Queretaro’s public institutions and the Embassy of Bangladesh in Mexico, underscoring the significance of cultural exchange programmes like “Bangladesh in Frames” in nurturing cross-cultural understanding.

Coordinator of International Relations of the State of Querétaro Nuri Gonzales affirmed her government’s commitment to supporting the Bangladeshi embassy in all its endeavours, and hoped for continued cultural exchanges between Bangladesh and Mexico.

Secretary of Culture Marcela Herbert Paskera extended heartfelt gratitude to the Bangladeshi ambassador and expressed her pleasure in experiencing the rich culture of Bangladesh as well as its ways of life. She wished for enhancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Mexico.

Bangladeshi ambassador Abida Islam thanked the provincial government of Queretaro and the Museum of Arts for hosting the exhibition, while hoping for deeper cultural exchanges in the future.

Following the inauguration of the photography exhibition at Museum of Arts, attendees were treated to a guided tour of the exhibition by Abida Islam, allowing them to immerse into the captivating narratives depicted in the photographs.

The event was further enhanced with the introduction of traditional Bangladeshi cuisines that added a savoury dimension to the cultural exchange initiative.
