Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said that they arrested the ringleader of ‘Mosha Bahini’ with his close cohort from bordering area in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district on Thursday.
Mosharaf Hossain Bhuyian alias Mosha, 47, and his cohort Delwar Hossain, 52, were arrested for firing bullets at local people in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj.
A foreign pistol and some bullets were recovered from them, said Khandaker Al Moin, director (Legal and Media) of the RAB, at a press briefing at Kawran Bazar in the capital on Thursday.
He said that Mosharaf was trying to flee from the country.
The officer said that about 80 members of the bahini had long been committing criminal activities in Rupganj and its adjoining areas.
“The members are dominating the areas. They have grabbed land of other people. They are also involved in drug trade and other criminal activities,” he said.
“The ringleader of the bahini, Mosharaf, is wanted in 40 cases on charges of murders, illegal firearms, attempt-to-murder, extortion, drug trade and other criminal activities. He suffered in jail several times in the cases,” he said.
About his latest offences, Moin mentioned that on May 25, the members of the bahini equipped with lethal weapons exhibited a showdown at Naura and swooped on some local people, finally fired bullets at them, injuring 20 to 25 people.
When the law enforcement agencies reached the spot, the bahini members hurled brick chips at them and even fired bullets too, leaving five to six law enforcers injured.
At one point, police arrested Mosharaf, but his cohorts snatched him by attacking the cops.The RAB officer said that Mosharaf studied up to class-VIII.
About Delwar, the officer said that he studied up to class-V and he was wanted in five criminal cases filed with Rupganj Police Station. He also suffered in jail several times in the cases.
