Faridpur: A seven-year-old madrasa student was strangled to death allegedly by a teacher in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur on Monday.
Police, however, instantly rounded up the accused teacher, Hedayetullah, who joined the institution just two weeks ago.
Iman Ali Mollah was son of Hridoy Mollah of Samoskandi village under Naopara union of the upazila and a student of Purbo-Garakhola Mohammadia Achhiya Madrasa and Orphanage at Madhukhali munic-ipality.
Students said the teacher, who hails from Netrokona, physically abused a student on Sunday night which the victim noticed.
The accused asked Iman not to share the matter with anybody and fell asleep.
The accused strangled the student to death when other students were sleeping around.
The students found Iman dead when they woke up and informed teachers of the matter. Meanwhile the accused left the madrasa taking another student before the matter was known to all.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Iman, said Madhukhali police sta-tion’s Officer-in-charge Shahidul Islam.
He said they detained the accused teacher from Majkhandi bus stand on Dhaka-Khulna highway shortly after the incident.
No case has so far been lodged in this connection, the OC added.
