Golam Rabbani Nadim, also vice-president of District Online Journalists Association, was attacked mercilessly by Sadhurpara Union Parishad chairman Mahmud Alam Babu and his cadres.

The criminals swopped on Nadim Wednesday night, hours after Mymensingh Cyber Tribunal had rejected his case against the journalist.

Nadim came under premeditated attack on his way to residence from office at 10pm.

Colleague Al Mujahid accompanied him sustaining injuries from the attack which took place in front of Dutch Bangla Bank booth at Pathatia in Bakshiganj.

Sources said 10-12 cadres of the chairman intercepted Nadim as he along with his colleague was crossing the point by a motorcycle. He was taken to a nearby secluded place and indiscriminately hit by sticks and other lethal weapons. For trying to resist, Mujahid was also attacked.

UP chairman Mahmud Alam Babu, his son Rifat Rezaul and supporters Monir and Sayed were present on the spot, Mujaid claimed.
Monira Begum, wife of Nadim, said her husband received grievous hurt on head, face, hands and legs, losing teeth.

Nadim remained unconscious and Jamalpur district hospital referred him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

“Chairman and his cohorts seriously attacked my husband with an intention to kill him. I want exemplary punishment to the culprits” she added.

Law enforcers collected CCTV footage which shows the criminal attack on Nadim.

Lutfor Rahman, general secretary of Jamalpur Press Club, said “I talked to the OC concerned demanding arrest of the perpetrators of the attack within 24 hours. Otherwise, we will go for tough movement.”

Jamalpur Superintendent of Police Nasir Uddin Ahmed said “We have detected attackers from CCTV footage. Five teams of police are trying to arrest them immediately.”
