A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced Zahid Sarwar, former Assistant Vice President of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), to 24 years and his wife Farhana Habib to seven years of imprisonment in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of embezzlement.
As the duo is absconding, Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 issued warrant against them following the verdict.
According to the case document, Sarwar and his wife forged bank cheques with fake signatures and em-bezzled around Taka 5.48 crore at different times from 2016 to 2018.
On December 10 in 2019, ACC Assistant Director Shafi Ullah filed the case.
