YouTuber and MP aspirant Ashraful Hossen Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom, has submitted nomination papers to contest the Dhaka-17 by-elections, to be held on July 17.
He submitted the papers as an independent candidate to the returning officer at the Election Training Institute (ETI) of Agargaon in the capital on Thursday.
After submitting the nomination papers, Hero Alom said: “I am not associated with BNP or any other party. I am an independent candidate”
Complaining that he was defeated in Bogra by-polls by conspiracy, he said he was participating in the Dhaka-17 by-polls as a protest.
He added: “I want to see if they can defeat me here as well.”
So far, 15 people including Awami League Central Working Committee Member and media personality Professor Mohammad Ali Arafat, and two candidates of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) have submitted their nomination papers for the Dhaka-17 by-election.
Who will be JaPa candidate?
Jatiya Party chief Raushon Ershad’s follower Mamunur Rashid submitted his nomination paper on Wednesday and the follower of the party’s Chairman GM Quader, Sikder Anisur Rahman filed the papers on Thursday.
“Party documents have to be submitted by candidates. I have submitted nomination papers following due process under the leadership of JaPa chairman. The other candidate did not get party nomination.
“If you want to be a party candidate, you have to submit a party certificate signed by the party president or general secretary,” he added.
In this regard, Returning Officer Munir Hossain Khan said: “Nomination papers will be scrutinized. On Sunday after reviewing the rules and regulations, the names of the final candidates will be announced”
