Staff Reporter:
Investigators are apprehending involvement of a section of customs officials in sealing 55kg gold from a warehouse of the department at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
Sources said CCTV camera in the warehouse was out of order four months ago but customs officials did not repair it.
Terming the incident premeditated, the investigation related people think the several officials of customs department are involved.
Cops of Airport Police Station are interrogating warehouse security officer and four others who are giving inconsistent statements.
The allegations in the FIR filed over the incident do not match the statements.
In the FIR, complainant made false claim that gold was taken away breaking the locker. Nobody except designated customs officials was allowed to enter the warehouse. It was not possible for any thief to break into the room and take away gold from KIP.
The gold pieces were removed for several months, not over night, said investigators adding the theft story was scripted to protect real accused.
