Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Wednesday urged the crime re-porters to try keeping up the trust, which they have created in the public mind by publishing objective news.
He said that he always welcomes constructive criticism from journalists.
“As a result, our professional work is more refined,” he said.
The IGP emphasised on increasing police-journalists communication due to professional needs.
The Police chief came up with the remarks when members of the executive committee of Crime Report-ers Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) paid a courtesy call on him at the police headquarters on Wednesday.
CRAB Executive Committee President Mirza Mehdi Tamal and General Secretary Mamunur Rashid spoke on the occasion.
The top officer of Bangladesh Police said that community policing and beat policing have been intro-duced to increase people’s involvement with the police. As a result, the relationship between the police and the people has become stronger, he said.
Journalists also have a role to play in removing the fear of police among the people, the IGP added.
He said that the professional relationship that Bangladesh Police has with CRAB will be strengthened in the future.
Senior officers of Police headquarters and other members of CRAB executive committee were also pre-sent.
