Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi celebrates Armed Forces Day

Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Thursday (7 Dec) celebrated the Armed Forces Day of Bangladesh with a vow to brightening the country’s positive image across the world and upholding the image of Bangladesh Armed Forces.

To celebrate this special occasion, the High Commission hosted a reception at Bangabandhu Hall of the Chancery. Lieutenant General VM Bhuvana Krishnan, Quartermaster General of Indian Army graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) Nitin Agarwal, ex-Chief of Army staff of Indian Army Gen Deepak Kapoor (retd) and many war veterans of Indian Armed Forces, diplomats of different countries and most of the Defence Advisers/Attaches based in Delhi attended the event.

On arrival, the Chief Guest along with High Commissioner and Defence Adviser laid floral wreath to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and paid homage to all martyrs of Liberation War of 1971, said the Bangladesh High Commission, New Delhi on Friday (8 Dec).

The National Anthems of both the countries were played. Besides, a video clip containing the contribution of Bangladesh Armed Forces in nation building and for international peace was screened.

Defence Adviser, Brigadier General Md. Hafizur Rahman has delivered the welcome speech. He specially mentioned the great sacrifice of the War Heroes of India besides the Mukti-Bahini of Bangladesh in achieving the glorious victory in 1971.

Appreciating the presence of the esteemed guests, he highlighted on the progress of defence cooperation between Bangladesh and India, as well as the advancement of Bangladesh Armed Forces at home and international arena.

Md. Mustafizur Rahman, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, in his speech, recalled the invaluable moral and material support of India during the War of Liberation led by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He mentioned the recognition of India to Bangladesh as independent and sovereign state being one of the first counties of the world. He highlighted the laudable roles of Bangladesh armed forces at home and abroad as they brightened the country’s image in the United Nations through their relentless services.

The High Commissioner thanked India for being a trusted partner of Bangladesh in its journey to glory and accomplishment.

Lieutenant General VM Bhubana Krishna on his special remarks mentioned that the development of Bangladesh Armed Forces has reached to a remarkable standard within very short span of time. Describing the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and India remarkable, he expressed strong belief that it would be strengthened further in the days to come.

The programme was ended by cutting of cake and a special dinner for the guests.
