HC dismisses Enamul’s writ

Staff Reporter:

The High Court yesterday dismissed the writ filed against the candidature cancellation order of Election Commission (EC), given against Awami League nominee from Jashore-4 constituency Enamul Haque Babul, for being a loan defaulter.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice M. Iqbal Kabir and Justice SM Moniruzzaman passed the order this morning.
Earlier on December 13, the EC cancelled Bablu’s candidacy as his name was on the loan defaulter’s list, after an application by Awami League’s independent candidate from the same constituency and current member of the parliament Ranajit Kumar Roy.
It has been stated in the article 66 (2) (c) of the constitution of Bangladesh that- a person shall be dis-qualified for election if he acquires the citizenship of a foreign state.
