HC rules on regi of GOP as political party

The High Court (HC) yesterday issued a rule, asking Election Commission (EC) to explain as to why it shall not declare illegal EC’s decision of not giving Gono Odhikar Parishad registration as a political party.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat issued the rule after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
The court asked the EC to respond within four weeks.
Advocate Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan moved the plea before the court, while Barrister Md Anisuzzaman stood for the EC.
Dr Reza Kibria, president of a fraction of Gono Odhikar Parishad, filed the writ on November 13.
