Nasrul says solar power must be used in coordinated way

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said use of solar power to be must for ensuring prosperity of the next generation, according to a message received yesterday.
“Solar energy should be utilized in a coordinated way. Bangladesh has taken bold steps to promote re-newable energy and solar power,” he said this yesterday while speaking at a discussion organized by In-ternational Solar Alliance (ISA) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The state minister said, “We are committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 61.9 million tons of carbon dioxide by 2030, which will help to build a green Bangladesh.”
He said that 300 MW of solar power was added to the energy mix last year, while 37 projects have been going on to implement for 2400 MW solar power.
Moreover 5000 MW of renewable energy generation projects are in various stages and another 5000 MW is in at the approval stage, Nasrul Hamid said.
He said Bangladesh has taken innovative steps in solar technology through floating solar power, solar home systems, mini grids, solar irrigation and solar rooftops due to land constraints.
“ISA’s vision is reflected in recently approved of the Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan-2023 which sets a target of 50.4 trillion Watt Hour of clean electricity imports annually by 2050. Moreover, there are plans to import renewable energy from neighbouring countries by I ncreasing regional coopera-tion,” Nasrul Hamid added.
He said that there is no alternative to expansion of renewable energy for sustainable development and a clean future.
ISA Director General Dr Ajay Mathur along with representatives of member countries was present in the discussion.
