Benapole: The first consignment of potatoes weighing 74 metric tons reached the Benapole land port from India on Thursday night.
74.01 metric tons of potatoes in 1480 sacks in three trucks entered Benapole port around 9:00 pm through Petrapole port in India.
Benapole Land Port acting director Rezaul Karim said that due to the official holiday on Friday, the shipment of potatoes was released on Saturday.
The importer company is Integrated Foods & Beverages Private Ltd. and the exporter is PepsiCo India.
According to customs sources, it will be possible to supply the potatoes at a TK30-32 rate. The customs duty fee for each metric ton of potato is USD 180.
The government decided to import potatoes from India to address the increasing prices in the country’s market. Out of 77 applications, the government allowed 12 importers to import about 50,000 tons of potatoes from India.
Potatoes will be imported through the country’s Benapole and Hili land ports.
