The Election Commission (EC) yesterday held an inter-ministerial meeting over the commission’s overall preparations to ensure security and accommodation facilities for foreign election observers for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election slated for January 7.
After the meeting, EC secretary Md Jahangir Alam said the meeting was a usual one with all concerned officials of ministries, divisions including civil aviation, home, foreign and information ministries and civil aviation authority as such meeting is arranged before every election.
He said a help desk will be set up at the airport to facilitate foreign guests for easy immigration.
Replying to a question, the EC secretary said those observers who will come to observe the polls with their own finance can apply till December 7 while those who got EC’s invitation can register till Decem-ber 15.
The number of total foreign observers can be known after December 16, he added.
As many as 87 observers representing different countries have already applied for observing the national election as the EC invited 114 individuals representing over 30 countries and four organizations.
